Let students add their imagination and creativity when applying distance and midpoint formulas to the layout of a city. This zip file contains a worksheet that has a coordinate plane to represent their city template. The building locations/coordinates are given, but the students must decide what the buildings will be and will sketch these on their city plan. This is a great way for students to apply their knowledge of the midpoint and distance formulas and even create their own problem as an extension problem.
The worksheet includes finding the distance between numerous buildings and the midpoints between different buildings. Students can use the coordinate plane to calculate these values and then use the formulas to check/prove their calculations or they may only have to use one method of their choice depending on the requirements set by the teacher. There is room for the teacher to add more problems to the third page if desired.
The zip file contains the document in docx and pdf forms. Thorough keys with work are included in the files.
