Description
In this activity students will build a 3D model of a constellation. It will help them understand that not all the stars in a constellation are the same distance from earth.
Materials needed: Box, styrofoam or floral foam, spaghetti, marshmallows, ruler.
This activity comes with 2 options:
1. VERSION 1: In this version students will choose one of eleven constellations and complete background research. The star distances are already provided for students and directions are given on how to create a scaled model. This version is great for middle school students, SPED students, or classrooms that don't have 1:1 computer access.
2. VERSION 2: In this version students will choose one of eleven constellations and complete background research. Students will head to https://stellarium-web.org/ and look up the distances each of the constellation stars are located from earth. This version is great for high school students.
