3D Shapes - Make 3D Shapes using Marshmallows and Make 3D Shapes using Clay
1) Grades: 3, 4, 5, and 6
My goal as a teacher has always been to create educational resources that inspire students to get excited about learning.
This product is great for teachers that are looking for 3D Shapes Activities.
For the first activity students are given a chart that lists 10 different 3D Shapes. The purpose of the activity is for students to be able to record the 3D Shapes they are able to create out of clay. When a student creates a 3D Shape out of clay, he/she marks a check mark on the chart next to the 3D Shape he/she created. The following is a list of the 3D Shapes featured in this product: Cylinder, Cube, Rectangular Prism, Triangular Prism, Hexagonal Prism, Pentagonal Prism, Sphere, Rectangular Pyramid, Pentagonal Pyramid, and Cone.
For the second activity students create 3D Shapes using marshmallows and toothpicks. The toothpicks can be used for the edges of the shapes and the marshmallows can be used for the vertices (corners) of the shapes. Students record the number of edges and vertices for each 3D Shape on the worksheets. Students can follow the diagrams on the worksheet to create the 3D Shapes. The following is a list of the 3D Shapes featured in this product: Cube, Rectangular Prism, Triangular Prism, Hexagonal Prism, Pentagonal Prism, Rectangular Pyramid, and Pentagonal Pyramid.
Optional: The students can paint the Marshmallow 3D Shapes. For better results, wait a couple of days to paint the Marshmallow 3D Shapes until the marshmallows get hard.

2) Answer Key - (1 Page)
The following are two ideas you might like to use for the answer key.
1) If you laminate the answer key, you can get your students to check their own answers. The students can make the proper corrections and hopefully master the concept. These answer keys work great for Math Centres. The students are always eager to check their own work!
2) Teachers that are moving towards “paperless classrooms” are using downloadable educational resources in PDF Format as homework assignments on different technology devices. PDF Files such as this product would allow parents access to the answers.
