Elapsed Time is a tricky concept for lots of kids, while others really get the hang of it quickly.
In this task card PDF you will find 2 types of elapsed time word problems, on two different levels.
TYPE ONE: Students will practice adding time to a start time or subtracting time from an end time. (Advanced and Beginner)
TYPE TWO: Students will practice finding elapsed time when given the start and end times. (Advanced and Beginner)
Because all students think differently and use different strategies, I have created a "Work it Out" mat with three different ways to help students solve the word problems.
1. Number Line
2. Clock (jump around the clock)
The best part is students get to pick the strategy that works best for them. (Teachers can also use this mat to introduce the three strategies to their students.)
Here is what is included:
-12 task cards on Adding/Subtracting time to the minute (Advanced)
-12 task cards on Adding/Subtracting time with 5 minute intervals (Beginner)
-12 task cards on Start and End times to the minute (Advanced)
-12 task cards on Start and End times with 5 minute intervals (Beginner)
-Strategy Mats (4 different mats to match the background of each task card)
-Student Task Card Record Sheet
Note: The answer keys are ALL the same. This makes for very easy grading ... no matter which set of task cards your students are using.
Please make sure you use these cards after students have been introduced to the concept of elapsed time AND you have worked with them enough for them to feel a sense of confidence with the concept.
