Use this set of 10 Distributed Array task cards as an interactive way to practice dissecting arrays using students' understanding of multiplication and the distributive property.
I'm using this as we are learning to describe area and as a review of the distributive property of multiplication.
Students will look at the array and determine what multiplication equation describes the total area of the array, what two parts the array was broken into using multiplication equations, and find the total area of the array.
Although I have the product listed as an iSPY, there are many ways to utilize these cards:
1) SCOOT! Lay the cards on the students' desks. Students will carry their recording sheets and will have a set time to sit, read, and respond to the problem on the desk. The teacher will announce SCOOT! and the students will scoot to the next desk to work on the next card in numerical order from where they started.
2) I-SPY! Display the cards around the room and students will travel to solve the problems at their own pace.
3) Task Cards! Link these cards together using a ring for students to solve at their own pace. This could be an included activity for your Math Center!
A recording log and answer key are provided.
