PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

1. These Lesson Plans explain that fractions are equivalent if they are the same size or located at the same position on a number line.


2. Students will draw pictures and partition a set of number lines to show fraction equivalence. (3.NF.A.3.A)


3. As third grade students work with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8, the simple equivalent fractions generated are:

1/4 = 2/8

1/3 = 2/6

1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 = 4/8

2/3 = 4/6

3/4 = 6/8 and

1/1 = 2/2 = 3/3 = 4/4 = 6/6 = 8/8. (3.NF.A.3.B)


4. Students will combine 1/2's, 1/4's, and 1/8's on a single line to find equivalent fractions.


5. Students will also combine 1/2's, 1/3's, and 1/6's on a single line to find equivalent fractions.


6. Students will express whole numbers as fractions and fractions as whole numbers. (3.NF.A.3.C).


7. Students will also learn the importance of using the same size "one whole" when finding equivalent fractions. (3.NF.A.3.D.)
