This easy-to-assemble math center includes 5 jumbo fish tanks with a product written inside. Students will work to find which fish (labeled with factors) could be paired together to make that product.
As a result, students are developing a firm understanding of the commutative property of multiplication as well as witnessing the connection between multiplication and division.
I set up this center by printing the product in color and on card stock paper. I cut out all of the pieces and laminated the set. The title page, I glued onto a folder before laminating to use for organized storage. I then put velcro circles on the fish and two circles on each bowl for students to easily attach the factors that they wish.
As an extension, students could flip the bowl over and write the fact family of four number sentences using multiplication and division to practice and develop their fact fluency.
The product is organized for the correct fish products to be found on the same page as the bowl in which they belong, which can become an easy answer key tool.
