This fun math center can be set up in a variety of ways in order for students to develop multiplication & division fluency as well as practice applying properties of multiplication and the relationship between multiplication & division.
Students will have two baskets, one labeled multiply & one labeled divide. These baskets can be glued and laminated into a file folder, glued onto opposite pockets of a folder, or simply printed and turned into mats.
Students also will have 12 hoagies, 12 watermelon slices, and 2 pitchers of lemonade labeled with number sentences and then 2 word problems. Students will be asked to determine what operation would make sense for that problem, either multiplication or division, and match the picnic item with its appropriate basket. Each food product can also be related to three other number sentences, which students may notice by utilizing the properties of multiplication and division. You may choose for students to record their work in a journal, piece of paper, turn it in for you to check (if in a folder), have a peer review their work, or practice using a calculator to check over their work.
I highly recommend printing the pages on card stock and laminating to ensure durability.
