Use this set of 10 Multiply or Divide? cards as an interactive way to practice conceptualizing multiplication and division.
I am using this as a review tool when teaching these skills with my students. These cards do not require students to solve, but instead, ask students to determine whether the situation calls for using multiplication and division. Sometimes I feel my students getting overwhelmed when learning a new skill -- having to remember it and apply it all right away. This is a great baby step into really differentiating between the two operations, while exploring their relationship, allowing students simply to recognize what they would do without having to take the step in solving. It's also great for students to practice dissecting word problems!
Although I have the product listed as an iSPY, there are many ways to utilize these cards:
1) SCOOT! Lay the cards on the students' desks. Students will carry their recording sheets and will have a set time to sit, read, and respond to the problem on the desk. The teacher will announce SCOOT! and the students will scoot to the next desk to work on the next card in numerical order from where they started.
2) I-SPY! Display the cards around the room and students will travel to solve the problems at their own pace.
3) Task Cards! Link these cards together using a ring for students to solve at their own pace. This could be an included activity for your Math Center!
A recording log and answer key are provided.
