These detailed 19 lessons are inspired by the Lucy Calkins/Teachers College Reading and Writing Project style. Each detailed lesson contains a connection, teaching point, active engagement, teach, and link. Unit includes ideas for a pre and post assessment.
I modeled this unit using George's Marvelous Medicine, but lessons are not specific to this book and you have freedom to cater to your students' interests.
This is a perfect unit to begin your school year with. This unit seamlessly works at producing a strong foundation of healthy reading habits as well as developing fundamental reading skills needed for the rest of the school year.
This unit covers the following topics:
Utilizing reading logs
Stop and jotting
Writing more detailed responses (writing long)
Reading for subtext
Building strong and good reading habits
Some of my mini lessons do include some personal tidbits to help guide that important personal connection to hook your student which are easily edited to fit you and your experiences.
