Looking for focused, Common Core and NWEA aligned balanced literacy center ideas? Want to give your students time to learn, practice, and apply their learning? Give these center packets a try!
Each center topic has a practice center where they are introduced to a topic and an application center where they apply what they learned. These centers can be used for independent work time as well as collaborative learning in pairs and small groups. Students monitor their learning by rating how well they understood each center with the smiley faces and their progress by noting when they complete each center.
This packet covers the same major topics aligned to Common Core and the NWEA Des Cartes Continuum:
- Figurative Language
- Parts of Speech
- Fiction Reading Response
- Non-fiction Reading Response
- Questioning (for use with guided reading group)
In my class, students have two weeks of center work time (three 15-minute center rotations a day) to work on these at their own pace. The minimum expectation is for them to complete all of the practice centers and for my students looking for an additional challenge, they can move on to the application centers.
Questions? Happy to answer anything that might come up!
