Now that we are moving towards embracing all of the Common Core Standards, I found that I have very few resources to help. I am beginning to create Math Word problem sets that are set up like the constructed response questions that will correlate to the 3rd Grade Math Common Core standards.
Included in this Set:
*Common Core Standards Covered List
*Teacher Notes with multiple ways to use these word problems in the classroom
*10 Constructed Response Multiplication Word Problems (Each problem is very thorough, including multi-step problems, and asking multiple questions about the word problem)
*Answer Key with explanation for each word problem
Common Core Standards Covered in this set:
Operations and Algebraic Thinking 3.OA :
Represent and solve problems involving multiplication.
3.0A1. Interpret products of whole numbers.
3.OA2. Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers.
3.OA3. Use multiplication within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities.
3.OA5. Understand properties of multiplication and the relationship
between multiplication .Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply..
3.OA7. Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division
Solve problems involving the four operations, and identify and
explain patterns in arithmetic.
3.OA8. Solve two-step word problems using the four operations.
3.OA9. Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations.
If you have had any experience with the constructed response type word problems, then you know they encompass a lot more than what the students are use to in a word problem. Students are expected to not only show how they solved the problems, but explain in words how they solved it. These word problems are set up in that format to met the Common Core expectations. This set only includes questions relating to the Multiplication Standards. Check back soon for Math sets relating to other standards!
PLEASE NOTE this is the same set of multiplication word problems found in my multiplication word problem and task cards set, as well as the multiplication and division bundle set!
