This is a case of Who Done It! Students will review all third grade fraction concepts in this real-world detective activity! If you're looking for ways to make more meaningful connections to math in the real world, this is the activity for you! Students will become detectives in this mystery where they have to solve 10 fraction error analysis activities that are challenges that relate directly to math in the real world. Students identify fractions, find equivalent fractions, compare fractions, partition shapes, show fractions as whole numbers, and put fractions on number lines. This detectives classroom transformation is a great fraction review for 3rd graders.

⭐ What is This? ⭐

Print out all 11 high school student "suspect" posters and all 10 aligned challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child the 2 recording sheets they need to figure out who the thief is! Explain to students that they will become detectives and will need to complete all ten challenges! They have to find all ten challenges you've left around the classroom and figure out the math mistake each high school student made while completing their fraction assignment. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.

This math activity is perfect for third graders. It aligns with 3.NF.1, 3.NF.2, 3.NF.3, and 3.G.2.
