3rd Grade Fractions - Otto's Birthday (3.NF.1)

This Fraction Fun Fish unit—Otto’s Birthday—is a unit developed around CCSS 3.NF.1:

Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.

Unit Use Examples:
Whole Group Instruction
-With the use of a smart board, project an activity page on to the board and have students share out how they find their answers.

Centers
-For use as a center, simply place a copy of the activity in a page protector. Students can use a dry erase marker to write their answers and check.

Extension
-The included open responses all for students to demonstrate their mastery of the concepts by applying their knowledge and explaining their answers. A blank template has been included for students to create their own open response questions
