Description
Solving word problems that include all 4 operations can be tricky for 3rd graders. Working with partners, “talking it out” together and using the acronym CUBES, your students will:
- Segment 1: collaborate with peers, practice key math vocabulary, read and extract information to help solve a multi-step word problem using all four operations, create visual models for word problems (arrays), and solve word problems that contain multiplication and division up to 100
- Segment 2: demonstrate their understanding by working in pairs to write their own multiplication or division word problem story based on a fact family
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
