Oh no!! The floor is lava! SERIOUSLY! In this cool "let's play pretend" activity, the floor has turned into lava! Students have to find the ten obstacles around the room (without touching the floor) and complete all twenty problems in order to win! While playing this fun game, students will practice math test prep that aligns with third grade common core math standards. This activity is a great way to make more meaningful connections to math in the real world. Students will embark upon a day of lava and volcanoes math activities.
Your third graders will answer questions about measurement, fractions, operations and algebraic thinking, multiplication, division, geometry, and numbers in base ten.
⭐ What is This? ⭐
Help your students tackle the lava n your classroom! What kid hasn't "played pretend" that the floor is lava! Now, it's possible to make it happen right inside your classroom! Students complete 10 math test prep challenges that are real-world math problems.
Print out all 10 volcano posters and all 10 aligned challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child a recording sheet. Explain to students that they will have to go around and solve all of the challenges without touching the floor (AKA lava)! They have to find all ten challenges you've left around the classroom and find the answers to each one. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.
There is also an additional writing activity where students scan the QR codes on each poster and find out fun facts about volcanoes!
This math activity is perfect for third graders. It aligns with all third grade math standards.
