This set includes vocabulary and story comprehension quizzes for stories/poems 1-5 in Unit 2 of the McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders Literature Anthology. These are 2-page quizzes for the following stories: Roadrunner's Dance, A Castle on Hester Street, Vote!, Whooping Cranes in Danger, and The Inventor Thinks Up Helicopters.
I created these quizzes to use at the end of each week to assess my students' understanding of the vocabulary words and main ideas of each story. I also stress that students write complete sentences to answer questions on the comprehension part of the quiz. I model, and we work together, to write good sentences in Unit 1. In the remaining units, students work more independently on their sentence writing.
I suggest scoring each quiz using a possible 25 points. There are 10 points for the vocabulary/matching page. There are 15 points for the story comprehension page. One point for starting the sentence with a capital letter, one point for punctuation at the end of the sentence, and one point for writing a complete sentence with the correct answer.
