In this timed or untimed game, your students will stretch their brains into shape as they work to create plane figures with the same area and different perimeters.

A game consist of 5 rounds. At the end of each round students share and explain how the 2 plane figures they drew have the same area and different perimeters. There are 2 scoring options in the game to meet the varying needs of your students.

Explore and Learn Area Allies

You'll love how easy it is to differentiate the game. Because this is a more challenging concept, be sure to use the ideas for differentiation. These include what numbers cards and game boards to use, timed or untimed games, and win/win scoring options.

Your students will build reasoning skills while explaining how different plane figures can have the same area and different perimeters. No need to search for the correct reasons or worry about shoulder shrugs. Sample reasoning statements are included with the rules. Students use these as they develop the ability to explain their thinking.

An After Game Wrap up activity is included. Students pick an area and perimeter essential question to discuss. (Essential questions come with the game.) After the discussion, students write 2 – 3 sentences to answer the question.
