There are no long passages for students to read. Instead, each question has a "mini" passage that goes right to the heart of the question and standard. Example:
1. It was Shannon’s birthday. Her mother baked a cake. Her father drove them to the zoo. Her older sister bought her an ice cream. Shannon dropped the ice cream. She cried until her sister bought her another one. That night, Shannon’s mother read her a story before she went to sleep.
What caused Shannon to be upset?
A. Her mother baked a cake.
B. Her father drove them to the zoo.
C. She dropped her ice cream.
D. She cried until she got another one.
The answer keys include the EXACT reading standard, so teachers can easily tally which standards are mastered, and which need extra help. Example:
A.Her mother baked a cake.
B.Her father drove them to the zoo.
C.She dropped her ice cream. RI.8
D.She cried until she got another one.
Why am I qualified to write these passages, writing prompts, and Common-Core aligned questions? Not only have I worked as a Language Arts Teacher for 30 years with a Highly Qualified Status, but I also have spent the last 15 years writing state and national assessments, such as the SATs, ACTs, and individual state assessments that align with the Common-Core standards. This includes grading, item writing, and passage writing for these assessments.
