This product Includes three differentiated levels!

Level 1 (indicated by an asterisk) includes the SECOND GRADE "on grade level" phonics and sight words for 3rd grade students who need more foundational practice mastering the 2nd grade concepts.

Level 2 (indicated by level a) is "on grade level" for third grade and includes phonics words and sight words for every Fundations Third Grade Unit!

These activities can be used in your classroom in a variety of ways:

•Use these activities to supplement our Weekly Spelling Lists--they can be used at centers, group work, independent spelling practice, or homework. The activities correspond to the specific words on the lists.

•Use these activities as weekly phonics/concept practice. Use them to practice and reinforce concepts each week at centers, group work, independent work, or homework!

You DO NOT need to use Fundations to implement this product. These activities will work as a supplement to any 3rd Grade Literacy Program! See the focus areas for each week below!
Unit 1:
-trigraph tch, sound of “a” following qu or w
-glued sound and closed syllable exceptions
Unit 2:
-suffixes (s/es; /s/ and /z/ sounds of s; vowel and consonant suffixes; ed; /t/, /d/, and /id/ sounds of ed)
-1-1-1 words, adding suffixes to 1-1-1 words (double last consonant if vowel suffix is added)
-1-1-1 words, adding suffixes to 1-1-1 words (double last consonant if vowel suffix is added), after x
Unit 3:
-vce syllables; sounds of s between vowels; /k/ spellings, rules of syllable division
Unit 4:
-ve, -ive suffix
-vce words with suffixes
Unit 5:
-accented/unaccented syllables, schwa sound
-words ending in “et”sounding like /it/
Unit 6:
-open syllable review; combination of syllable types, sounds of y at end of one and two syllable words
-schwa with a
-schwa with i
Bonus Unit:
-closed and open syllable prefixes
-closed syllable roots
Unit 7:
-adding suffixes to words ending in y
-pluralizing words ending with y and o
Unit 8:
-consonant-le syllable, el vs. le
-adding suffixes to consonant -le

Unit 9:
-r-controlled; r-controlled combined with other syllables; r-controlled exceptions
-ar and or say /er/ at end of multisyllabic words; ir and ur never at end of words

Unit 10:
double vowel syllables; combined with other types; focus on long o (oa, ow, oe), long a (ai, ay, eight, ei, ea), and long i (igh)
-double vowel syllables; focus on long long e (ee, ea, ey, ei, ie); ea both short and long; long u (ui, ue, ew, ou, oo); 2 sounds of oo
-Adding suffixes to double vowel words
Unit 11:
-Contractions (2 weeks)
Unit 12:
-soft sounds of c and g before e, i, y
-Adding suffixes after soft c and ge; -dge, -dge with suffixes
Unit 13:
-ch as /k/; digraph ph
-silent letters wr, rh, gn, kn, mn, mb, gh
Unit 14:
-ture, tu, ti, ci
