You DO NOT need to use Fundations to implement this product. These lists will work as a supplement to any 3rd Grade Literacy Program! See the focus areas for each week below!Includes three differentiated levels!

Level 1 (indicated by an asterisk) includes the Second Grade "on grade level" phonics and trick words for 3rd grade students who need more foundational practice mastering the 2nd grade concepts.

Level 2 (indicated by level a) is "on grade level" for third grade and includes phonics words and trick words for every Fundations Third Grade Unit!

Level 3 (indicated by level b) is "above grade level" and includes more sophisticated words and vocabulary, while still incorporating the third grade phonics concepts and all third grade Trick Words.

Printables are ready to copy--make one to send home and one for a classroom spelling notebook. A Spelling Challenge printable and system for weekly tests are also included. This ready-to-go complete package will save you time and will enhance your children’s spelling. It is directly connected to Wilson’s Fundations Program for third grade (Level 3, First Edition), so it is a perfect supplement! The lists will also correspond with most all third grade phonics and reading programs. The following is a list of the third grade phonics concepts included:

Unit 1: /k/, trigraph tch, sound of a following qu or w;
glued sound and closed syllable exceptions review
Unit 2: suffixes (s/es; /s/ and /z/ sounds of s; vowel and consonant
suffixes; ed; /t/, /d/, and /id/ sounds of ed);
1-1-1 words, adding suffixes to 1-1-1 words (double last
consonant if vowel suffix is added);
1-1-1 words, adding suffixes to 1-1-1 words (double last
consonant if vowel suffix is added), after x
Unit 3: vce syllables; sounds of s between vowels; /k/ spellings,
rules of syllable division
Unit 4: ive exception, suffix -ive, vce words with suffixes;
1-1-1 words with suffixes
Unit 5: accented/unaccented syllables, schwa vowel sound;
et sounding like /it/
Unit 6: open syllable review; combination of syllable types, sounds of
y at end of one and two syllable words;
schwa with a;
schwa with i in unstressed open syllables followed by vowel
or consonant
Unit 7: y and suffixes (y to i unless suffix begins with i);
pluralizing words ending with y
Unit 8: consonant-le syllables;
consonant-le exception -stle; consonant-le vs. el;
consonant-le with suffixes (drop e with vowel suffixes)
Unit 9: r-controlled; r-controlled combined with other syllables;
r-controlled exceptions;
ar and or say /er/ at end of multisyllabic words; ir and ur
never at end of words;
effect of w on ar and or; suffix ward; 1-1-1 with r-controlled
Unit 10: double vowel syllables; combined with other types; focus on
long o (oa, ow, oe) and a (ai, ay, eight, ei, ea);
double vowel syllables; focus on long long e (ee, ea, ey, ei,
ie); ea both short and long;
double vowel syllables; focus on long long u (ui, ue, ew, ou,
oo); igh; 2 sounds of oo
Unit 11: contractions with not and is; canʼt; donʼt; wonʼt; mustnʼt;
contractions with will, are, would, have; letʼs; Iʼm
Unit 12: soft sounds of c and g;
nce and nge; adding suffix to nce, nge, dge; trigraph dge;
review trigraph tch
Unit 13: ch as /k/; digraph ph;
silent letters gh (/g/), wr and rh (/r/), gn and kn (/n/), mn and
mb (/m/)
Unit 14: tion and 2 sounds of sion;
ture and tu;
suffixes al, an, ous, ent
