This freebie is the beginning of Part 5. I am still working on the rest of Part 5, and will post it soon! This is WEEK 25 only.
Ideally, you would do part one in the 1st six weeks, part two in the 2nd six weeks and so on. However, you can start at any point. I would recommend starting on 19 or later at this point in the year as it is getting closer to the test. You could then use Parts 1, 2, and 3 for intervention and remediation. Beginning on Week 19, all 3rd Grade TEKS are being reviewed (no more 2nd Grade TEKS review).
Do you introduce topics to your students at the beginning of the year, and they seem to have forgotten the skills when test time comes? Do students seem to have lost the concepts they learned last year? Hopefully, this book will help you correct this problem by providing a DAILY review of the TEKS.
This series was written to use for Spiral Review in 3rd grade and is based on the TEKS.
You can look at the “TEKS Standards Overview” to see which standards are covered on which days.
It is set up, so that each Reporting Category is reviewed everyday.
The 6 problems are intended to be used with the “Number of the Day” page as well. Ideally, you would copy one on the front and one on the back.
It was created to be a “Bellwork” assignment, but if you are short on time, it could be given as homework as long as it is checked together in class shortly after turning it in.
The problems are not extremely difficult and are not in test format They are intended to help give a QUICK review of the basic skills needed. However, they will definitely have to be THINKING.
I do not always take a grade on this assignment, but I make sure I go over each problem and let the students check their own work in pen or colored pencil. I have added a Weekly Score Sheet you can use to track student progress and possibly as a motivation tool since I don’t take a grade. This sheet is very helpful as RTI paperwork also.
I like to use a Weekly Spiral Assessment (in test format) over only the concepts I have taught in the current school year for a grade. I am working on creating a set of these kinds of assessments, so check back later for those.
I also do a “Problem of the Day” (POD) from my Texas 4-Step Problem of the Day book and Fact Fluency Practice each day with this spiral review. The Problem of the Day page uses a 4-Square graphic organizer to teach students how to systematically solve a word problem.
I have included the new PODs with this Spiral Review, and they correlate with the Problem of the Day that is on the bottom left square of the Spiral Review. There is no need to purchase the Texas 4-Step Problem of the Day book because it is included in this product.
If you have any questions, or find an error, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or send a message on TPT. If you would like to be added to my email list, please email me and I will be happy to do that also. I'm sorry I do not have answer keys made yet. As soon as I get them, I will upload them. If you click on "Follow Me," TPT will send you an email when updates happen.
Creating this product has been a labor of love because I know how important daily review is to having a successful math program. I hope you enjoy using the spiral reviews in your classroom.
