I find this helps me to assess students both with the main story we have read together and discussed all week as well as an independent read with the follow-up story selection.
The stories included in Unit IV are as follows: “Cook-a-Doodle-Doo/Welcome”, “Seven Spools of Thread/Our Class”, “Washington Weed Whackers/Up a Creek”, “Here’s My Dollar/Neighbors/Recycling”, and “My Very Own Room/Frank Lloyd Wright”. Comprehension checks include questions regarding text type, author’s purpose, text-based answers, inferencing, and more. Feel free to check out the “Preview” as well as other items that support the Treasure 3rd Grade series. The preview shows a story from Unit IV. Be mindful the comprehension questions get harder and more comprehensive as the units and school year progress. This means that comprehension questions from Unit I are fairly simplistic and short and questions from Unit VI are lengthier and cover more concepts and skills. The units are in a stepping stone format with increased length and difficulty as the units’ progress. I have additional comprehension questions as well as other supporting materials including vocabulary lists and test for each story. These are also organized by units to make finding what you need easier.
