Get them up out of their seats! This fun scavenger hunt supports the following 3rd grade Texas math standard:
3.2A Compose and decompose numbers up to 100,000 as a sum of so many ten thousands, so many thousands, so many hundreds, so many tens, and so many ones using objects, pictorial models, and numbers, including expanded notation
Includes 10 cards that are to be copied and posted around the classroom. Students begin with any card, solve the problem below the line, then "hunt" for the card that has the correct answer (above the dashed line). Then, they solve the problem on that card, and begin "hunting" again.
This is a quick activity that reinforces "value" of numbers in expanded notation.
Can also be used as an "early bird" activity for students who are finished with their work, and need something to do.
