I was once told by a mentor teacher that some students get SOL questions wrong simply because they don't know what the question is asking. I read through all of the 3rd-5th grade released SOL tests that I could find and created a little of the words I thought might be tricky. I use a few words every week. We talk about what the words mean, how they might be used in a question. Occasionally (especially in math) I will find an SOL question and we will practice that question together with the word. This is the second year I have used them and the students are doing quite well!
