PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The provided 4 Common Core rigorous activities explore development of point of view in popular sitcom and movie excerpts. The activities are tied to the Common Core standards RL5, RI6, RL6, SL2, and SL3. The activities focus on the development of first person and third person omniscient narrators to advance the plot of the scene. The activities include a teacher answer key to assist you in your guided feedback to students. The video clips from each movie have been edited to focus on the key scene(s) that show how the point of view is developed. The movie clips are in an .AVI format so they can be played on almost any video player, computer, and tablet. The video is embedded on each page of the Word document so that you do not have to look for the movie clip. Students will answer the following questions for each of the 4 movie or sitcom excerpts:

1. From whose point of view is the scene told?
2. How would the scene have been different if it was told from another person's point of view?
3. Is it possible that the narrator is biased and tells the story to make himself/herself or someone else look better?
4. What are some of the problems with believing a story if it is told in first person or third person?
5. Does the narrator use foreshadowing or flashback to tell the story from his/her point of view?

The movie clips are edited from the following 5 popular movie titles:
• Forrest Gump
• A Christmas Story
• Soul Food
• Desperate Housewives
