This 4-Corners Activity allows students to examine, interpret and engage in the origins of Prisoner Leasing from the late 1800s to present day. This print and go prep activity has students evaluate statements regarding prisoner's rights in today's Corrections system. Students select from pre-labeled corners if they Strongly Agree, Somewhat Agree, Somewhat Disagree and Strongly Disagree. After students select which corner aligns with how they identify with a statement, class conversation and debate is sparked regarding how prisoners are treated today. The prep that is required is simply printing the corner labels, posting them and bringing up the Power Point on a projector.
This activity is different from the norm and allows students to learn through conversation rather than just lecture.
