Get your students engaged with talking purposefully about a text by using this 4-Corners Comprehension Activity. Academic talk is a vital part of effective and differentiated classroom instruction and this is the perfect activity to foster it in your classroom! This activity and corresponding “Exit Ticket” can be used for formative or summative assessment purposes.
If your class is anything like mine, they LOVE a good game of 4-Corners... they play it all the time at recess and in P.E....so why not turn it into a fun learning activity in the classroom. Not only will your students enjoy this, but you will be able to meet the necessary standards you are working towards mastering with your class at the same time.
Simply choose 4 of the skill posters to hang in the corners of your classroom, allow your students to move around and visit each corner while talking intentionally about the vital comprehension skills you are teaching. Each poster includes language frames (sentence starters) to guide conversations among students and help encourage the use of text evidence in their responses. You can use this activity time and time again by either reading another new text and practicing the same skills or switching the posters and using again with the same book for multiple exposure to a text.
YOU CAN USE THIS ACTIVITY WITH *ANY* TEXT!
