This product consists of four essays of the type described at EngageNY.org for the new Global History and Geography Regents examination to begin in 2019. For each essay, there is a teacher version and a student version. There is also a grading rubric of my own creation (because at this writing the official Regents rubric is not yet available). The grading rubric is built on "performance level descriptors" devised by NYSED as well as elements of writing that I incorporate from the Common Core and previous Regents rubrics.
NYS has no samples of this besides the draft exam prototype, so I constructed these to the best of my ability based on video instruction provided by NYSED and based on documents provided.
The essays are designed to be completed at ten week intervals through the 9th grade year. They are labeled with the grade and the week in the school year by which students could be ready. For example, "g9w20" means "grade 9, week 20" and this would be the essay my students would write at around week twenty in the school year. My plan is to have students do one of these once each ten weeks through grades nine and ten so as to be well prepared for the Regents exam at the end of grade 10.
The Enduring Issue essay consists of five documents, from which students choose three to anchor a discussion of an "enduring issue". An enduring issue is a challenge or problem that a society has faced and debated or discussed across time. An enduring issue is one that many societies have attempted to address with varying degrees of success. (EngageNY.org)
The teacher version of the four essays includes the documents, NYS Social Studies Frameworks references, source citations, and a chart of some possible enduring issues that students could see in the documents. The student versions only include the documents. Note that in this new version of the exam, there are no scaffolding questions.
This bundle consists only of the essays and the rubric. Please shop around my TpT store if you are looking for more detailed materials for these such as sample student essays and training materials. The price takes into consideration both the uniqueness of this product right now and the hours invested in creation.
