About SNAPs Lab Stations Activities
SNAPs Lab Stations Activities require students to use science, math, literacy, problem-solving and engineering skills. They are designed to enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts and help students apply scientific ideas to the real world. Each station activity promotes skills so to develop students into proficient and competent scientific thinkers.

SNAPs lab activities have five components:
Science Skills Station to develop science skill proficiency
Narrative Station to build science literacy
Assessment Station to evaluate learning and understanding
Problem-Solving Station to foster engineering design
Synthesis/Summary Project to inspire higher-order learning

A description of the activities at each station in this particular lab is detailed below.

Next Generation Science Standards
This laboratory partially satisfies NGSS 4-LS1-1. It combines the three dimensions of science learning - science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas and crosscutting concepts - in order to meet the standard. This laboratory also makes interdisciplinary connections to STEM, Math CCSS and ELA CCSS to build the appropriate skills.

Human Body Systems Lab Stations Activity Learning Objectives
1. Describe the function of organ systems in the human body.
2. Identify organs of different organ systems in the body.
3. Explain how organ systems support survival, growth, behavior and reproduction.
4. Construct and use a model to explain how structures in the human body work together to keep a human alive.

Science Skills Station
Students will study the function of major organs in the human body at this station. Students will use the learned information to classify organs to the organ system(s) to which they belong. Students will describe the function of the organ systems and describe how they support survival, growth, behavior and/or reproduction.

Narrative Station
Students will read about the human body systems at this station. They will also watch a video about the human body systems, the function of those systems and major structures within those systems.

Assessment Station
At this station, students will answer questions about key terms and ideas relating to human body systems. Students will have to employ lower, mid and higher order thinking skills to answer these questions.

Problem-Solving Station
Students will construct a model of the human body at this station. They will use the model to explain how organs and organ systems work together to keep a human alive. They will consider how dysfunction of one organ (or organ system) can impact the survival, growth, behavior and/or reproduction of a human.

Synthesis/Summary Project
Students will have a choice of 11 projects. Refer to the SNAPs Lab Stations Best Practices and Setup Guide for directions and suggestions on how to conduct the project.
