Product Description
This offering is a four puzzle package of puzzles involving Edgar Allan Poe and his short story The Tell-Tale Heart. Included are an "arithmetic essay" on general knowledge about Poe in which addition and subtraction and smaller exponents are used to come up with the appropriate dates and numbers. (The arithmetic is NOT hard, just good to learn/know. The INTENT is for the problems to be done mentally . . . instructions are given. Students from 7th grade to 12th grade will be able to do the problems and all will be able to "get something out of having done them.") There is an adjective search on finding 18 adjectives found in The Tell-Tale Heart that might make a nice introduction to reading the story. I HAVE provided brief definitions of the adjectives on the actual puzzle. There's a crossword puzzle that would provide a nice look back at The Tell-Tale Heart. The clues (about 10 of them) on The Tell-Tale Heart are not too deep, but the puzzle WILL be enough to force some thinking. My solution page also explains some of my more "uncommon" answers. For younger students/puzzle-doers it might be best to work the puzzle in pairs or groups. It's intended to generate a challenge while providing some fun. Learning some new vocabulary is always a goal of mine in my crosswords. Remember! The point of a crossword is to have a little fun/challenge while you are learning something. You are not supposed to know each answer right away upon glancing at the clue. It would be no fun if you did. You’d have LEARNED nothing. (This is a message that might be imparted to your students.) I try to phrase enough of the clues so that a student/person will know many of the answers immediately . . . the rest of the clues I want to challenge the doer a little bit. When they’ve learned something through being challenged they’ll appreciate their accomplishment, and the experience, a lot more. The other puzzle is a vocabulary matching puzzle that "covers" seventeen of the more difficult/useful words in The Tell-Tale Heart that are nice to know even today.
