The 4StepsReading curriculum is made up of phonics based, decodable and sequential, reading packets for small group instruction. It is designed to be used as a beginning reading program.
This is the syllabus for the entire curriculum. The reading packets are bundled into 4-5 weeks of teaching material. Each packet is numbered and put into a bundle. There are 8 bundles to cover the entire curriculum. See this syllabus for the order. It is best to start with the first bundle packets 1-5 to teach short vowels and the closed syllable rule. Following the order of the bundles is best since the program builds upon itself. Once in multi-syllable words it's important to cover all the syllable division rules 1-4.
The reading packets in the 4StepsReading program cover all syllable types in words: Closed, Open, Unit, Vowel Team, Silent E, Vowel R, and Consonant LE.
The program teaches the four syllable division rules for words-one consonant between the vowels, two consonants between the vowels, three consonants between the vowels, and four consonants between the vowels, along with common suffixes ING, ED, and ER.
The stories in each packet are kid friendly and fun to read. Packets contain two reading levels to address the needs of strong vs. struggling readers. I have added a bundle titled: Easy Beginner Reading Stories that adds a 3rd level that is for students that need a very easy text to read. This is available for purchase, just look for this bundle.
This program is designed to be used in an Elementary classroom in small group reading instruction, for those tutoring children in reading, or as a Home-School reading program for beginning readers.
