This is an integrated task that is actually used in a reading class setting. It was designed for 2nd grade with the essential understanding being how the Earth changes over time and the process of a volcano forming and erupting. Included is a teacher copy with what this activity could look like when completed and the interactive reading textbook that was read and analyze with the students prior to completely the activity. This activity can be used in many ways in multiple subjects. While using this particular activity, I had the kids draw their illustration of each step and then write a sentence explaining what they drew. When it comes to younger students, sometimes it is hard for them to compile thoughts into a sentence, so by first visualizing and drawing their ideas it will be easier for them to construct a sentence to go along with it. After each of the illustrations and sentences is complete, then the student will write one final sentence about how the three images are relationship (basically a main idea sentence).
