List #4 Kahoot
This file includes a pre-assessment of the 40 vocabulary words to be given on the first day or two of the school year. This pre-test is multiple choice - 40 questions.
Then students will have a quiz every 10 days over 10 new words for the remaining 40 days of first quarter.
Each of the four quizzes have 10 words with matching definitions and an optional bonus question for extra credit.
The document includes answer keys and a page for students to use to record their data from the pre-assessment and each of the four quizzes that will be given during first quarter (one every two weeks or 10 days).
The words focus partially on mood/tone and are handpicked by me after 9 years of teaching after finding that there are essential words that students MUST know in order to be prepared for high school. Though vocabulary is a weak area in Language Arts education, I believe we can remedy this through repetition and pre/post assessments, holding students accountable to daily practice and usage.
Consult general and specialized reference materials (e.g., dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses), both print and digital, to find the pronunciation of a word or determine or clarify its precise meaning or its part of speech.
Verify the preliminary determination of the meaning of a word or phrase (e.g., by checking the inferred meaning in context or in a dictionary).
