Art-making can be a quick experience. It doesn’t take a long time to experiment with oil pastel resist or apply paint to paper, but if you are creating a piece of art that builds on a technique or expands on an academic unit, lessons usually require an hour or so. This doesn’t help the teacher who has a forty minute slot between morning recess and math unit to teach an art lesson to the class. But with some planning and the right set of expectations, you can do it.

This 32-page digital lesson plan offers SIX easy, standard-based art lessons that can be completed within 45 minutes. Use my time-saving tricks to ensure that kids will not only complete a lesson but will learn about art in the process.

This lesson plan includes SIX lesson plans for Kinder through second grade. The packet includes teaching tips for quick art lessons plus a run down on the best art supplies. Each lesson has an art supply list, photo-tutorial and a student gallery and uses simple art supplies.

Color & Line Painting: Children draw lines and paint the resulting shapes. Includes a "Line" handout.

Miró Line Drawings: Inspired by the abstract world of Joan Miró, children create a whimsical human and use tempera paint to add touches of color. Miró Coloring Sheet plus a How To Draw Like Miró handout included.

A Color of His Own: Based on the adorable book of the same name by Leo Lionni, children draw a chameleon and color it their own way. Includes a Color Me Chameleon handout.

Here, Near & Far Sailboats: Children learn to draw a sailboat and place the objects according to the rules of perspective. Includes a How to Draw a Sailboat Handout.

Mondrian Paper Art: Inspired by the works of Piet Mondrian, children use their math skills to create a geometric work of art.

Collagraph Printmaking: Using the collagraph technique for printmaking, children create their own relief stamps.

The following techniques/elements of art are used in this digital lesson plan:
