Measuring Angles in Constellations with a Protractor

This is a fun math activity that can be used for practice with protractors (CCSS 4.MD.6), or to accompany a science unit on constellations.

In this activity, students are expected to measure the angles in constellations with a protractor. They record their measurements in a chart, and then classify the angle as acute, obtuse, or right.

After they have completed their measurements, there is an additional activity where students can research their chosen constellation and the myth behind it.

There are eleven different constellation pages for students to choose from. The teacher may also make instructional decisions when assigning constellations, as some are more difficult than others.
