This assessment includes a 10-item short answer review and a performance task (constructed response item) covering Math Common Core State Standard 4.NBT.A.1-2, Place Value. For the short answer section, students are asked to determine the value of the underlined digit; write numbers in word form, expanded form, and standard form; and explain how to prove that a digit in one place represents ten times the same number in the place to its right. For the performance task, students are asked to draw a picture model of two three-digit numbers using symbols to represent the values of the hundreds, tens, and ones places. Students are asked to compare these numbers and write a number sentence demonstrating the relationship.
