I have created a turkey assignment (rubric included) where students have to compare two different turkey farms to see which has the greater number of turkeys. According to the standard, 4.NBT.A.2, students are asked to create two different numbers of the greatest value after given 2 different sets of digits. Then they are asked to write both numbers in expanded and written form. They must recognize that a digit in one place represents 10 times what it represents in its place to the right. Finally, they will then compare two multi digit numbers based on the meanings of the digits in each place.
I have created this for my 4th grade students. I will use it as my November bulletin board. I hope to update this posting once I am finished but I figured I would post it online now.....just in case you are also wondering what to do for November.
Included: turkey worksheet (which can be colored and cut out), directions, rubric, standard, lettering (We Are "Thankful" for our Math Skills!) and a few clip art images. The actual way you design your bulletin board is up to you. Good Luck! Some turkeys and a few pieces of hay or straw (not included) make for a great look!
This could also be used as a project grade or a stand alone assignment without a bulletin board.
The picture of the bulletin board is just an example of how I created mine using the turkeys and the rubrics. Not included: tablecloth from dollar store as background, owls, and leaves. Best of luck creating your own bulletin board!
