Are your students able to explain their mathematical thinking? Can they draw diagrams and use math terms accurately to solve and explain when comparing fractions?
This 4 page set includes 4 math problems, aligned with the Common Core Standard 4.NF.A.2. and 4.NF.B.3. There are 2 math journals for 4.NF.A.2 and 1 journal for 4.NF.B.3.
Each question encourages students to compare fractions with unlike denominators and show their work. 3 out of the 4 problems are about sharing cookies. To connect math and literacy, use "If You Give A Mouse a Cookie" by Laura Numeroff to kick off your lesson. Then, use these journals for independent practice, a wrap up, or quick assessment. The journals range from easiest (journal 1) to hardest (journal 4). You could easily differentiate by giving students different journals based on their level!
*Note: These questions could be used to challenge Grade 3 or for intervention in Grade 5.
This set has many uses in your math class! Enjoy!
