Hello Fellow Educators,
My fourth grade math class is working on standard 4.NF.G.6 (Given decimal notation, write fractions having denominators of 10 or 100). I decided to come up with something that could be graded as a project and that would also make a great bulletin board. I searched through my cabinets and started cutting off labels of some of my daughter’s favorite foods. Then I wrote a price on each label…but not in dollars and cents….in decimals, words, or fractions. The students would have to fill in the conversion table to complete the chart in decimals, fractions, words and dollars. They were then required to find the total of all the columns. Finally, they were given a budget of $17.00-$20.00 to choose the groceries they wished to purchase and create their shopping list. They were responsible for staying within their budget and finding the amount of change due.
When I asked the students if they enjoyed this project….I got all thumbs up! As long as they enjoyed it….I know I did my job!
If you want to use the exact product list that I used…I have enclosed it. I have also enclosed a blank list if you want to search your cabinets and find labels that work for you. You can also do this project independent of finding labels or creating a bulletin board. The project can stand alone.
If you purchase this project….I am confident that your students would enjoy it and I would really appreciate your feedback!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to view my page. Check out my other products too if you have some spare time.
