This product is an alternative to traditional California Mission reports and projects. In these tasks, students must use 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving to design and create a proposal for the next California mission. To complete this task, students really internalize the purpose behind California’s missions and how they worked in order to be able to design their own successful mission.
Students also must take into consideration the often untold story of the Native Americans in this historical context as they create a rebuttal against the founding of another mission.
The projects were created for collaborative group work but could be tailored to fit your students’ needs. 10 day lesson plans also have students using technology to create Google Slides presentations but again, lesson plans could easily be tweaked to accommodate a pen and paper project as well.
