These basic 5 minute to 8 minute warm-ups cover all three customary areas (Length, Capacity and Weight) as well as all three metric areas (Length, Capacity and Mass). They are designed to handle both conversion and magnitude understanding, and they are the first step in learning measurement. Students are adequately prepared for follow-up activities in measuring with rulers and triple beam balances.
There are 3 student sheets per page to reduce the number of Xerox copies required. A class of 24 kiddos can be handled in only 8 copies per day. There are 10 warm-ups per section for a total of 60 daily warm-ups. An answer key is provided.
Math classes in the last decade have moved away from students KNOWING this material in long-term memory. There is a common belief among modern day educators that the student can simply look everything up on the Internet, but this is an absurd expectation. Using that logic, the student needs very little vocabulary development or correct spelling expertise as well, since they can also look that material up on the Internet, too. Students should be held accountable for this information on a ready recall basis. It benefits them in other math applications, problem solving situations and science applications.
