This is a short parallel program for 4th to 8th to get the kiddos up-to-speed with the basic knowledge of quantities of length...customary...in this case. Our teachers have their students pick this up as they walk in the classroom, and while they are finishing preparing the morning lesson or last minute administrative activities, the children finish this short warm-up/skill practice. A quick check...repetitive where they are not doing well...and on to the lesson with this skill in their proverbial math toolbox.
I have written all six of these series and we run them all during the year...and presto...the kiddos do not look blankly around the room when they are answering a question or referencing that there are 12 inches in one foot, or 3 feet in a yard, etc. I have always found it frustrating that we have allowed children not to know these things, readily...when I was a teacher and now a principal.
Hope this resource is as successful with your kiddos as it is with ours. Good for any socioeconomic level classroom. This is like all else...a learned skill...students must practice it to know it.
