In this whole group sorting activity, students must decide whether the physical adaptation on their card represents an example of camouflage, mimicry, body parts, or chemical defense. Place the category cards at the top of your pocket chart and hand out the adaptation cards to students around the room. Call students up to place their adaptation cards into the correct category. If there is any disagreement about the placement of a card, discuss and make corrections as a class. This can also be used as a small group center activity. Thirty different adaptations and an answer key are included! This is a great lesson and conversation starter that I use year after year during our unit on animal adaptations.
