100 original 4th grade leveled reading passages and close reading activities perfectly aligned to the Common Core Literature AND Informational reading standards! EVERY standard has FIVE passages and activities specifically dedicated to that standard. Standards RL.4.6, RL.4.9 and RI.4.9 are extra special (you know, the ones where you compare two texts) because these standards have a total of TEN passages so that your students can compare away!
RIGOROUS AND COMMON CORE ALIGNED
Each passage has TWO pages of carefully written and consistent close reading tasks and text dependent questions. The first page of tasks are specifically aligned to the standard identified at the top of the page. The second page of activities is a spiral of all the 4th Grade RI (informational) and RL (literature) standards. This is perfect for holding those kids accountable for everything they have already learned! No skill slipping on your watch!
WHAT CAN THIS BE USED FOR?
This is perfect for class-wide close reading, assessments, guided reading groups, or homework. Your students must refer to the text and provide textual evidence of their understanding.
CAREFULLY CRAFTED READING PASSAGES
Each passage falls within the Lexile level of 770-980, which is the Common Core Standards expectation for 4th grade. The Lexile level is marked at the top of each passage. There are a variety of literature text types including poetry, narratives, and plays. The informational text types range between STEM topics, science, history, and opinion pieces. The formats include magazine articles and texts with multiple diagrams. In terms of interest level, EVERY passage is written with a 4th grader in mind.
The Common Core standards consider 4th and 5th grade level texts within the same Lexile level band of L770-980. That means I use many (about 70%) of the same texts in both the 4th and 5th grade products. I only modify the passages slightly for text complexity and to better match the specific grade level standards. However, you will see that the questions and tasks on each of these grade level products are completely different and aligned to that grade level’s standards. If a 5th grade teacher is considering the 4th grade pack for something to differentiate for lower level readers, I suggest my 3rd grade pack.
