Are you looking for an engaging punctuation lesson plan to use with your 4th grade students? Then our units, each based on a specific Trait of Writing and aligned to the Common Core, are a perfect starting place. Each of these units uses a mentor text as a basis and then expands into a specific form (mode) of writing. However, what makes our units different is that all activities are research-based. Not only do we design activities that work, we tell you what the research tells us about these types of activities.
In this unit we use the engaging mentor text "Exclamation Mark" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld to teach L.4.3.b (using punctuation for effect).
The three lessons in this unit follow a format of 1) a modeled read with an explicit instructional focus; 2)Collaborative Student Engagement; and 3) Independent Student Practice with multiple choice activities. Each activity is comprehensive and includes specific directions to the teacher, helpful hints, and a ready-to-use reproducible. Options for Opinion Writing and Narrative Writing are also included.
Please note: the mentor texts are not included in these lessons. Teachers can easily find these books in most school libraries. We also have a link to each book on our Amazon Associates website at www.denovolearning.org. Your purchase of books from our site does not cost you anything extra and allows us to purchase more books house for unit development. Thanks!
