Here’s a little about this product, and how I use it in my own 4th grade classroom.
This product helps students take ownership of their learning, supplies me with the data I need to plan effective lessons AND thrills my administrators every time I get evaluated. I also love that it works with any curriculum.
Before introducing the new standard, I give a preassessment (it’s SUPER easy for the kids to graph if its out of 10 points). This shows me where they stand, and gives them a visual as well. I teach the unit (spending more or less time based on their pre scores). At the end of the unit we take our normal post-assessment. The students graph their growth and I move on with those who are ready. And the kids who don’t show mastery after the post test? That’s my reteaching group. It’s also an option to predetermine a mastery point and allow students to test out of direct instruction for that standard. My gifted kids have that opportunity and use ongoing projects/novel studies to occupy time they would have spent learning things they already knew.
Here's what's included:
-Levels of Understanding posters (and print outs for the kids to hold onto)
-A letter to the kids explaining standards, and why we teach what we do.
-RL AND RI Checklist (in kid friendly lanauge)
-Pre/Post assessment charts for every standard (RL & RI), including a place to mark their level of understanding.
I hope you find this as easy to use as I do. If you have any questions, or ideas for me, please let me know!
