This goes along with the Engage NY common core curriculum for 4th grade ELA. Students will be learning how to read on and use context clues in Lesson 10 of Unit 2 (Module 1). Some students might need more practice with this skill in a direct instruction setting.
This supplemental worksheet is intended to be used in an AIS Reading class, for small group work, to help special education students...or even just as extra practice for your whole ELA class!
Students are asked to use context clues from the sentence in order to figure out the meaning of a particular word.
This lesson goes along with Engage NY's common core curriculum for fourth grade.
It specifically uses the language and the text (excerpts from Eagle Song by Joseph Bruchac) that Engage NY uses in the 4th grade Common Core modules. Because this is a supplement, it could be used in 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, or even 5th or 6th grade for struggling students.
You can use this to differentiate instruction by pre-teaching and re-teaching the method of "reading on" in order to use context clues. Show your administration that you can provide scaffolding within the Common Core modules.
