“HELP” is on the way with: Help! I Can’t Read Multisyllabic Words! Effective syllable strategies using weekly Vocabulary and Spelling words is the focus of this product, which is aligned with Journeys (2014 Edition). If you don’t use Journeys, it can easily be used each week for reinforcement and support with all fourth graders, as learning to read “big” words is our goal.
As we all know, students who are struggling with reading tend to sound out the first two sounds of the larger words and guess or skip the words all together. This product’s intent is to unlock the frustration and to HELP them get excited about reading. Students will see the connection between syllables and nonsense words. They will confidently realize that if they can read nonsense words, they can read multisyllabic words. The excitement begins after only a few lessons when students start to instantly see the syllables in the words.

All 30 lessons (one lesson each week) have three options that will assist you and your students depending on their individual level of knowledge with words. Whole group instruction, small group instruction, and one-on-one intervention will be enriched with this product. Once students know the format of the activities, this would be highly effective in centers. If you use Daily Five, you automatically have your word work activity ready with this product.
