Project Based Learning (PBL) is a great way to enrich students and help them to see their math skills in a real world setting. In these Common Core aligned projects students will enjoy Life Skills, Social Studies, Science and Art Connections. This package includes 4 projects: You Be the Baker!, Stamp of Approval, Kids Can Conserve, & City Planner. Projects feature basic adding and converting measurements, adding, subtracting, and dividing money, totally measurements, and identifying/measuring geometric shapes. Package 2 is considered 3rd and 4th marking period 4th grade math skill practice.
Each project includes a brief background and explanation, to do list, planning area, comprehension questions, technology connections (in most), and culmination project suggestions. Teacher's Note pages are included for each project listing Common Core standards, activator activity, notes to the teacher, and common uses. Personally I have used all of these projects in my 4th grade classroom and my students have loved them! I have used these projects in two ways: (1.) as individual enrichment projects for students who have tested out of the topic content via pretesting or (2.) as collaborative projects in a rotation based classroom. True Project Based Learning starts with lessons in the classroom and ends with a real life artifact as a result of those lessons.
